Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering

A college-level summer course that allows high school students to earn college credit through lectures and activities in topics such as civil, chemical, electrical/computer, mechanical engineering, and materials science.
Additional Information:
There is an in-person and online program
In-person tuition: $3,200 + $4700 residential fee
Online tuition: $3,200 + $325 lab kit
Priority is given to rising juniors and rising seniors
Applicants should have As and Bs in science and math classes
Applicants must have completed Algebra II and either a full year of physics or chemistry
HYPOTHEkids @ Columbia Engineering
Deadline: March 2023
A 6-week biomedical engineering program that teaches students the engineering process and challenges them to solve real-world health issues.
Additional Information:
Weeks 1-3: Workshops about engineering design
Weeks 4-6: Researching health problems and designing prototypes to solve them
Program runs from July through August, Mondays to Thursdays
Travel & lunch stipend will be provided after program conclusion
Winning team will be awarded cash prize
Students have the opportunity to apply for a paid internship for the following summer
Application Information:
Open to NYC public high school students
Priority is given to rising high school sophomores and rising high school juniors
Student either attends a NYC high school with a Free and Reduced Price Lunch (FRPL) rate of 50% or higher OR Student qualifies for FRPL but attends a NYC high school with an FRPL rate below 50%
Application materials include submitting transcripts, attendance records, recommendation letters, proof of FRPL, and essays
The Cooper Union School of Engineering

A paid internship program for high schoolers interested in STEM and engineering, providing them with classes and weekly hands-on activities.
Additional Information:
Students must attend a 6-week Summer STEM class
There are 2 programs available: Service Scholars and Cooper Next Scholars
Service Scholars, a leadership and community service internship for NYC high school female students. Participants will learn skills through workshops and work with a mentor in a community service project
Open to females attending an NYC public high school and who are rising juniors or rising seniors
Must have previously participated in an out-of-school STEM program
Participants will complete 30 hours of community service
Stipend of $1,000
Metrocards available
Cooper Next Scholars, a professional development internship for low income NYC high school students. Participants will be exposed to a variety of STEM careers and will participate in college and career readiness workshops.
Open to NYC rising high school juniors and rising high school seniors
Stipend of $800
Application opens: Fall 2022
Participants can work one-on-one with a Gates engineer to develop effective and efficient industrial and automotive components and systems in a wide range of engineering specialties, spanning manufacturing, process, quality, packaging, and research and development.
Additional Information:
Interviews are held in the winter
Internships are also available, with applications opening in Winter 2022 and interviews conducted in Spring 2023
